FREE “FEMALE REFUGEES FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND EMPLOYABILITY”
Project NR. – 101139440
PROJECT SUMMARY
The FREE project aims to promote entrepreneurship and employability for displaced young
females in the EU with the goals of improving their social and economic status, helping them to close the gender gap in entrepreneurship, and contributing to post-conflict rehabilitation efforts through virtual capacity building activities. In this sense, the project addresses the challenges
faced by refugee women to enter the labor market due to several obstacles related to their identity components such as their ethnicity, skin color, (dis)ability, religion, socioeconomic background etc.
The project draws its frame considering one of the priorities in the cooperation between the EU and the Eastern partnership as support and empower young generation, especially in terms of
developing their skills and promoting employment with collaboration of six partners from
Armenia, Cyprus, Moldova, Italy, Ukraine, and Serbia. Its specific objectives include conducting
research on existing initiatives for empowering inclusion, active participation, and entrepreneurial skills among women refugees, providing inclusive English courses, job shadowing activities, online international youth exchange experiences, and local workshops on entrepreneurship to boost employability among the beneficiaries. Through non-formal education activities, such as English courses, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and entrepreneurship workshops, the project seeks to enhance the digital and soft skills of displaced women, promote entrepreneur and soft skills, and encourage intercultural dialogue and the practice of foreign languages.
Objectives
The general objective of the project is to promote entrepreneurship among young women in the
European Union (EU), recognizing the significant benefits of investing in women's economic
empowerment, as articulated by Ban Ki-Moon. By focusing on fostering entrepreneurship among
young women, the project aims to address the gender gap in entrepreneurship, which currently
exists, thereby contributing to a more balanced and diverse business ecosystem that drives
economic growth and innovation. Furthermore, promoting entrepreneurship among young women can help alleviate gender inequality in the labor market by providing avenues for self-sufficiency and increasing employability. This endeavor also supports the empowerment of women, improving their social and economic status. Recognizing the specific challenges faced by forcibly displaced women, the project seeks to integrate them through employability and entrepreneurship initiatives, offering a pathway to financial independence, enhancing mental well-being, and facilitating their reintegration into society. Additionally, by promoting refugee entrepreneurship, the project contributes to economic integration, social cohesion, and peace- building efforts. Aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and EU strategies, the project aims to achieve gender equality, promote economic growth, and foster inclusion and diversity through capacity-building activities focused on enhancing employability and entrepreneurship among displaced women. The project underscores the importance of inclusion and diversity, ensuring participation regardless of ethnicity, disability, religion, or other factors. Specific objectives include fostering digital and soft skills development, promoting citizenship and common values, empowering young people, encouraging intercultural dialogue, and promoting anti-discrimination and gender equality through education and non-formal learning activities. By aligning with Erasmus+ objectives, the project seeks to promote learning mobility, cooperation, quality, inclusion, creativity, and innovation in the field of education, training, and youth. Ultimately, the project aims to create a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous society by empowering young women and fostering entrepreneurship among forcibly displaced populations.
The specific objectives of the project aim to address the challenges faced by forcibly displaced
women in accessing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities within the European Union
(EU) context. Firstly, the project aims to conduct research to understand the current state of
initiatives supporting inclusion, participation, and entrepreneurial skills development for women
refugees. This involves producing a detailed research document targeting young people and
organizations, including potential partners and international bodies. Secondly, the project seeks to provide organizations with tools to effectively transmit entrepreneurial skills to forcibly displaced women, including the development of an action plan, an inclusive English course, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and a project manual outlining the methodology. Thirdly, the project aims to foster empowerment, active participation, and entrepreneurial spirit among women refugees through virtual youth exchanges and workshops on entrepreneurship, targeting young women refugees, youth workers, and relevant organizations. Lastly, the project aims to raise awareness of the potential impact of competence-based development for women in the labor market and the positive effects of the project through the creation of a documentary featuring participant testimonies, promotional materials, and an awareness-raising campaign targeting both young women refugees and organizations. Through these specific objectives, the project endeavors to enhance the employability and entrepreneurial opportunities for forcibly displaced women, ultimately contributing to their social and economic integration into hosting communities.
