   Theater Tools for Dramatic Situations

In early February, Marios Theocharous and Boghos Avetikian attended a training course by FTP Buzau titled “Theatre Tools for Dramatic Situations”. Along with participants from 15 other counties, Marios and Boghos learned how to raise awareness of the importance of cultural diversity, equal opportunity and anti-hate discourse In regards to social integrations of all types of migrants in any community. In turn participants worked together in Santana Monteoru to create three forms of plays, LAPR, Forum Theatre as well as Role-play.

Participants then spent the last day in a city called Buzau, where they presented their works to an audience of high schoolers of the city. It was a successful project which captivated the audience and both said audience as well the participants gained a newer set of socio-civic and cultural-artistic competences.

My Story

I have recently travelled to Romania as part of an Erasmus+ Training Course “Theatre Tools for dramatic
situations” in Sarata Monteoru and Buzau. It was 8 amazing days with beautiful people coming from 17
different countries all of them bringing their own input in an intense and well scheduled program. We
had the chance to deal with important issues and a lot of us push our boundaries and get on stage to
talk for immigration, emigration and racism while understanding that these issues are not a problem of
one country and that we are all dealing with them in different ways.
I want to thank you NECI Cyprus for the chance to meet with youth workers from all over Europe and
surrounding countries to see how similar and how different we all are in the European union family
where its important to be able to be free to be yourself.
I hope we meet soon with all other 30+ participants either in projects or on individual traveling to
continue what seems to be a start of great friendships and cooperation.
Marios Theocharous

Spending time with people from 15 other countries in Sarata Monteoru was an absolute joy for me. It was fascinating to learn about issues about migration, of any form and hear stories from everyone from every corner of European countries. What was ever more interesting was the second and perhaps more crucial part of the training, that of using theatre tools in order to raise awareness of the issue. My small team ended up putting up a forum play when we visited Buzau, where I played as the Joker, prodding and poking the audience to take part in our play where the main character, an immigrant is misunderstood and looked down upon. With the audience's help, we changed the story, saved our hero, and put on a great little play with an even greater moral of a story.
